| Dr.
Norsworthy began writing and lecturing in 1975 and since has published over 30 articles in
various veterinary journals. The quantity of lecturing he has done is unusual for a
private practitioner; his lecturing has taken him to nearly every state. He has presented over
300 lectures for local VMAs, state VMAs, and regional and national meetings
such as the AVMA Convention, Western Veterinary Conference, North American
Veterinary Conference, the Central Veterinary Conference, the Wild West
Veterinary Conference, the Southwest Veterinary Symposium, and the
Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference. He has also lectured
many times in Canada. He was chosen "Speaker of the Year" at the 1998 North American
Veterinary Conference in two categories: Small Animal and Technician.
Gary is the editor and major author
of Feline Practice, a textbook for practitioners, which was published in
1993 by Lippincott. His second book, The Feline Patient: Essentials of Diagnosis and
Treatment, was published by Williams and Wilkins in 1998; it has been translated
into Spanish, Italian, and Japanese and is currently under revision. The
Second Edition of The Feline Patient published in
October 2002. Gary is a co-author for two feline continuing
education programs on compact disk for Lifelearn V, Inc. He is on the Editorial Advisory
Boards for Veterinary Product News, Snyder Communications, Veterinary Forum,
and Veterinary Medicine Journal, and he serves as medical
editor for Cat Fancy Magazine. His latest endeavor is a
series of video tapes demonstrating clinical and surgical procedures
for feline patients. It is called The Norsworthy How-To Video
Series and is published by Teton NewMedia.
Dr. Norsworthy has been on
the cutting edge of feline practice for many years. In 1975 he published the first general
review article in the veterinary literature on the feline leukemia virus and its
manifestations. He was speaking to veterinarians in the late 1970s about the
clinical use of cytology, several years before it was taught in most veterinary colleges.
Some of his innovations include a simplified method of thyroidectomy and a surgical
procedure for chronic frontal sinusitis. His most recent papers describe
sensitive thyroid palpation and its implications. Because of his contributions to veterinary
medicine Gary was chosen as the 1992 Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year by the
Texas Veterinary Medical Association and 1997 Outstanding Alumnus of the College of
Veterinary Medicine of Texas A&M University. He received the 1998 Clinical
Consultation and Referral Award from the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice and the 1998
Diplomate Achievement Award from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He is one of 25
distinguished veterinarians asked to serve on the
President's Council of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
He is a
Charter Diplomate of the Feline Practice Category of the American Board
of Veterinary Practitioners.
Because Gary is a
practitioner, he has always placed the emphasis of his seminars on
"take-home-and-use" information. If there is one word that sums up his seminars
it is "practical". He is constantly looking for newer or more practical ways to
solve feline medical problems and incorporates those in his presentations.
Gary and his wife, Linda, have been married over 35 years. They have two
children. John is an engineer for Vmed Technology near Seattle, WA. Melissa is an interior
designer by training and a full-time wife and mother by choice. Melissa and her husband Greg
have two children. |
